Our School

Empower to Excel β€” value-based education rooted in the vision of St. Kuriakose Elias Chavara and the CMI tradition.

A school where every child is a special gift

Carmel International School was established in 2009 and is run by the Catholic Fathers of the CMI Congregation. The Carmel Educational and Charitable Trust, Hosur, was set up to provide quality education and charitable activities without profit motive. The school is affiliated to the Council for the Indian School Certificate Examinations (ICSE & ISC), New Delhi, and is recognised as a Minority Educational Institution under Section 2(g) of the National Commission for Minority Educational Institutions Act, 2004.

Carmel is an ISO 21001:2018 certified institution, under the management of the CMI (Carmelites of Mary Immaculate) Fathers of Preshitha Province, Coimbatore. We are committed to a supportive and inclusive environment that fosters academic excellence and personal growth.

Why β€œEmpower to Excel”?

Our motto conveys the school's primary goal: to provide students with the tools, knowledge and opportunities they need to achieve their full potential and excel in every aspect of their lives.

St. Kuriakose Elias Chavara (1805–1871)

Our Founder

St. Kuriakose Elias Chavara (1805–1871)

The founder of the Carmelites of Mary Immaculate (CMI) β€” the first indigenous religious congregation in India β€” St. Kuriakose Elias Chavara was a social reformer, poet, dramatist and educationist. He produced fundamental changes in the education scenario of Kerala, starting the first free Sanskrit school open to all sections of society in 1864, and vigorously pursued the policy of starting a school attached to every church.

Thanks to his efforts, the CMI congregation today runs an extensive network of more than 520 educational institutions β€” including a Deemed University, autonomous colleges, medical and engineering colleges β€” across India and abroad. From his life of vision and service, Carmel draws its inspiration.

The CMI Education Policy

After the example of our founder, the Carmelites of Mary Immaculate consider education as an integral formation of the human person for the fulfilment of his or her individual and social responsibilities. Our educational endeavours aim at forming leaders who are intellectually competent, spiritually mature, morally upright, psychologically integrated, physically healthy and socially acceptable β€” leaders who champion the cause of justice, love, truth and peace.

We aspire to create a just and humane society where the dignity of every person is respected, cultural heritage and religious harmony are upheld, and the poor and marginalised are especially cared for. Our institutions are open to all students irrespective of caste and creed; they are accepted and cherished, and helped to grow in their cultural, social and religious traditions.
